The Sahelo-Sudanese strip is experiencing a deep and multidimensional crisis, which includes but not limited to economic, political, ecological and security issues. The crisis has led to serious developmental challenges in the region. The deep and lasting destabilization of the communities has created fertile ground for terrorism and the youth plagued by the unemployment and the difficulty of living situation have become the easy target for Jihadism. Coupled with these challenges, the region is also plagued by the global climate change issues which is leading to land degradation and deforestation issues. The National States and the international communities have mainly been focused on security and economic aspects, but not as much on environmental and developmental dimensions. The Great Green Wall (GGW) and AFR100 among other initiative, which were originally aimed at stopping the advancement of the desert in the region and regenerating the soil to revitalize the communities now include other dimensions such as energy, agriculture, health, etc. to make them holistic framework capable of promoting true structural stability and sustainable development. However unfortunately, these efforts, are encountering low local communities and private sector participation and this is due to lack of awareness and the lack of sense of local benefits for the communities and lack investible opportunities for private sector. It is due to this fundamental inadequacy that the GGWoA Foundation was created. GGWoA, a foundation focused on facilitating climate initiatives in Africa through stakeholders and private sector engagement to scale innovations that enable the African people towards economic empowerment, better livelihoods, and improved environmental health to facilitate transition to sustainable living.
