As the world's leading online physical coal trading platform, globalCOAL provides a fast, effective and transparent route to the international physical and financial coal markets, for both thermal and metallurgical coal. By combining two powerful tools for market development; SCoTA - the world's standard coal trading agreement - together with our online trading platform, globalCOAL has, since its launch in 2001, promoted the stable development of a liquid traded thermal coal market. In October 2013, we launched screen trading of metallurgical coal, with the aim of bringing price transparency to this opaque market. The first product on screen is a mid volatility coking coal, shipped FOB Australia. globalCOAL has contributed three major innovations to the industry over the past fifteen years: 1. The introduction of our Standard Coal Trading Agreement (SCoTA®) in 2001 revolutionised the international trade of coal. Today, with more than 2,100 licensees worldwide, it is widely recognised as the contract of choice for the sale and purchase of seaborne thermal coal. Our online trading platform enables market participants to trade standardised coal contracts efficiently and anonymously but with full price and volume transparency. We communicate all our trading data to the market and created a robust, fully transparent methodology for coal price index calculation. As a result, the globalCOAL NEWC Index is now established as the leading benchmark for coal prices in Asia-Pacific.
