Good Guys Globe Society was registered in 2017 by a group of students from Mt. Kenya slums with backgrounds in business, accounting, ICT, and media and environmental studies. The society emerged in response to the health and environmental challenges brought about by poor waste management practices and vices caused by abject poverty in the face of unplanned population growth, and the disruptions of climate change. The Society recognizes the need for innovative solutions to address these critical challenges. In particular, the Society has been working with its partners to reverse-engineer waste plastics to produce petroleum fuel products, with the goal of refining these into Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG). The Society is also involved in a project to convert (old and polluting) petrol-engine vehicles to run on systems of batteries and electric motors. Prototypes of both innovations are already in operation. The idea is to use the former as a source of energy to run generators to back-up the solar energy to power the converted electric vehicles, in the process generating employment, conserving the environment and reducing the carbon foot-print of transportation.
