Got Your 6 unites the nation's leading veteran nonprofit organizations to create opportunities for veterans to serve our communities. Communities become stronger when they empower veterans to be leaders and civic assets. Got Your 6 also educates content creators on how to better portray veterans to help change the cultural narrative and counter misconceptions of our service members. Veterans often say they feel more pity than respect from the civilian population. Through programs like 6 Certified, Got Your 6 recognizes film and television projects that show reasonable and accurate portrayals of veterans. As the narrative changes, Americans perceive veterans as leaders and civic assets and expect them to use their many skills to strengthen our communities. In the military, “got your six” means “I’ve got your back.” It refers to the six o’clock position as the rear of a military formation.
