Grace Rwanda Society

Grace Rwanda Society is a registered Canadian charity based in Langley, B.C.(BN: Grace Rwanda was founded in 2009 by two women who survived the 1994 Rwandan Tutsi genocide and later immigrated to Canada, Elizabeth Mujawamaliya Johnson and Marie-Louise Kaligirwa. The charity works to provide school books and literacy materials to Rwandan children in schools and youth in District Community Centers YEGO. Between 2009 and 2012, Grace Rwanda worked to successfully refurbish one school in Eastern Rwanda with new 8 classrooms, a kitchen, a library, and milk cows to increase nutrition for malnourished students and to promote sustainable development. In 2011, it created mini-libraries in six schools across the country. In 2013, it created the first of 21 new libraries in district youth centres across the country, with the partnership of the Rwandan Ministry of Youth, and education officials. Grace Rwanda is also working to put mini-libraries in every classroom in the Muhanga District, southeast of Kigali, and Gasabo District aiming to supply all 87,500 students with schoolbooks over the next few years.
