Grassy Fork Fire Rescue
We are located in the Cherokee National Forest of the Appalachian Mountains and adjacent to the Smokey Mountain National Park. Our southeastern response area borders the North Carolina state line. We have 10 miles of Interstate 40 that runs through our response area, as well as over 10 miles of the Pigeon River. There are 12 commercial rafting companies which work on the Pigeon River within our district. There are three gas stations, one of which services the trucking industry on I-40. North Carolina has a hydro-electric plant and Walter’s Dam that feeds into the Pigeon River just on the other side of the state line, which we are the first in department to both structures. We provide mutual-aid to the National Park Service, U.S. Forestry Service, Tennessee Forestry, Cosby Volunteer Fire, Del Rio Volunteer Fire, Cocke County Fire and Haywood, Co. in NC.
