Great Step Initiative

Great Step Initiative (GSI) is a community-based organization established in Cross River State with the mission to support refugees and vulnerable host community members through capacity building, empowerment and effective communication for sustainable recovery and development. GSI has recently been engaged in effective door to door campaigns, capacity building and focus group discussions on Covid-19 safety and preventive measures, Gender-Based Violence (GBV) awareness, Menstrual Hygiene Management sensitization and Hygiene Promotion in refugee settlements and host communities in Cross River State. The effort is a Refugee led organization intervention aiming to put an end to the plight of forcibly displaced people, through the provision of improved access to livelihood, peacebuilding activities and protection from sexual exploitation and abuse. In December 2020, GSI was celebrated as the winner of the UNHCR innovation award for Central and West Africa for its creative efforts in response to the pandemic.
