Green Bath Racing

Green Bath Racing (GBR) is the University of Bath’s student-led engineering team dedicated to advancing ultra-energy-efficient mobility through the Shell Eco-Marathon, one of the world’s leading sustainable vehicle competitions. Since 1996, we have brought together students from across engineering disciplines to design, build, and race prototype vehicles that showcase innovation, teamwork, and technical excellence. Competing in the Battery Electric Prototype category, GBR is the #1 ranked team in the UK and 4th in Europe & Africa (2025). Our latest vehicle achieved 828 km/kWh at the 2025 Shell Eco-Marathon in Poland—setting a new British record and demonstrating over 130× the efficiency of a typical electric car. For context, our vehicle can travel around 130 km on the energy required to boil a household kettle. Our work is fully hands-on and based in our dedicated on-site garage at the University of Bath, where the vehicle is designed, assembled, and tested. This collaborative environment provides members with access to essential tools, workshop resources, and university machining facilities. Students work closely across mechanical, electrical, aerospace, robotics, composites, data, and vehicle dynamics teams, gaining practical experience that mirrors real engineering workflows. Sustainability is at the core of what we do. From the transition from ICE to Battery Electric powertrains, to lightweight structural design, efficient manufacturing, and energy-focused simulation, GBR is committed to developing technologies that support a low-carbon future while promoting responsible engineering practices. With support from academic advisors, technical staff, industry partners, and sponsors, we continue to innovate and compete globally. GBR gives students the chance to take ownership of real engineering work, collaborate with peers, and contribute to a high-performing team.
