GreenCoop company is the cooperative of producers of Happy Tomatoes from Rye Island (Žitný Ostrov). Rye Island did not accidentally become the home of the popular Happy Tomatoes. This area is the largest inter-river island in Europe and the largest freshwater supply in Central Europe. It is not only the most productive agricultural area of Slovakia, but there are also many geothermal sources without which ecological greenhouse crop production is almost unimaginable. Our cooperative groups together producers whose philosophy is to grow tasty and healthy tomatoes, leaving the lowest possible ecological footprint. We heat all our greenhouses with geothermal energy, use rainwater collected for irrigation and use biological plant protection instead of chemicals. Thanks to renewable sources, our cooperative emits tons less carbon dioxide as the other conventional greenhouse growers of similar size. We try to grow our plants by affecting nature as little as possible. Our cooperative is the largest group of producers in Slovakia, with an annual production of about 10 million kilograms of quality Happy Tomatoes. In addition to our ecological approach to cultivation, we are also proud that our team is made up of more than 400 local employees, which helps us to contribute to the development of our region. All our producers fulfill even the most demanding European requirements for food safety and their farms are inspected annually by certified quality control companies.
