Greenfriars is an independent advisory and research studio working at the intersection of systems, policy, and practice to help organisations navigate sustainability transitions with clarity and integrity. We support leadership teams, institutions, and professional bodies to understand structural change, identify emerging sustainability opportunities, and design the systems needed to embed environmental and social responsibility into decision-making. Our work focuses on upstream questions - governance, standards, evidence, and professional practice - helping organisations move beyond isolated initiatives towards coherent, future-fit approaches. Greenfriars works across sectors and scales, developing policy frameworks, guidance, certification systems, and learning programmes that equip organisations to manage complexity and operate sustainably over the long term. Our projects often sit where disciplines meet: connecting impact assessment with sustainable finance, linking place-based thinking to institutional governance, and translating research into practical tools for action. From exploring the future of food systems and bioregional cities, to designing environmental and social certification schemes and shaping the evolution of impact assessment practice, Greenfriars undertakes work that requires systems thinking and careful judgment.
