Greenhood Nepal

Greenhood Nepal was established in 2012 by a group of undergraduate students concerned about the biodiversity crisis in Nepal. We came together to organise a public campaign against rhino poaching and to hold the government accountable for its conservation commitments. This helped us to recognise the potential of pursuing careers in conservation, hence, an urgent need for a formal platform to develop conservation capacity. As our community has grown and matured, Greenhood Nepal has since developed into an impactful, respected, science-driven conservation organisation dedicated to protecting Nepal’s most threatened biodiversity. We are particularly interested in applied research and science-driven community-based conservation, with a focus on the human dimensions, including public education, policy engagement, capacity-building, and civic action. We are best known for our work addressing illegal wildlife trade and conserving species that have been traditionally neglected in conservation. We are also recognised for our outspokenness on contentious conservation-development debates. We empower others with knowledge, opportunities, and research to protect threatened wildlife and improve on-the-ground management, using science-based, people-centred approaches that balance the needs of human and natural communities. We work in collaboration with local communities, governments, researchers, and non-governmental national and international organisations as well as universities.
