Habitat Norge

Habitat Norway is a Norwegian non-governmental organization, established in 1988, with the overall aim to promote the interest and awareness of global urban challenges and settlement issues. Important topics for Habitat Norway are sustainable development, local participation and improving the living conditions of poor slum dwellers, with special emphasis on gender equality and youth issues. Habitat Norway conducts information exchanges and increase competence on global and urban poverty issues in Norwegian urban development arenas, and in foreign and development policy, through an interdisciplinary and international network. Habitat Norway is a thematic department of the Norwegian Housing and Urban Planning Association (NBOBY), voluntarily affiliated with the Habitat International Coalition (HIC) and the UN Habitats World Urban Campaign (WUC). Habitat Norway also has an ongoing collaboration with urban grassroots organizations such as Slum Dwellers International (SDI), Asian Coalition for Housing Rights (ACHR), Huairou Commission (Huairo), Orangi Pilot Project (OPP) etc. The Cities Alliance and the World Bank’s urban anchor are close partners. Habitat Norway is also a member of the Forum for Development and the Environment (FORUM) and participates in the network «Organizations with a framework agreement on information support with NORAD» (RORG).
