Hanging Wood

Hanging Wood is an off-grid woodland farm dedicated to self-sufficiency and traditional woodland practices. We manage our woodland through coppicing and copparding of Hazel, Sycamore, Sweet Chestnut, and Beech, crafting practical and beautiful products for theatre, schools, home décor, and land management. We also mill our own Western Red Cedar, producing high-quality timber for a wide range of uses. Alongside this, we grow vegetables and fruit using permaculture methods, ensuring a steady supply of fresh produce directly from the land. Our apiary supports a thriving population of bees. From here, we produce nucleus colonies (nucs), run beekeeping courses, build handcrafted hives, and sell raw honey straight from the woodland. The entire farm operates off-grid, powered by solar energy, rainwater harvesting, and wood fuel — making Hanging Wood fully self-reliant in both energy and water. At Hanging Wood, we live and work with the land, combining traditional skills with modern approaches to create a diverse, productive, and truly self-sufficient woodland farm.
