Thank you for coming by to learn more about myself, our non-profit HAPPY HOOVES, & our short term rental,"Sanctuary in the City", here on our farm in North Phoenix, AZ! The founder, Jesse Pekarek, having grown up on a dairy farm in Minnesota,(moved to Arizona in has always had a passion for animals, & has a passion to give back to the community. In 2019, Happy Hooves was born. How did this happen? It all started when Jesse met his first miniature horse on Bourbon street in New Orleans. The owner of the horse had left to get more carrots & left Jesse with the horse, Peter, aka Pickles. After about 45 minutes, Jesse was hooked and had to get one of his own! In 2015 Jesse and his spouse purchased a larger property with the intention of rescuing abused and neglected animals. They slowly adopted 6 miniature horses and donkeys. Jesse was brainstorming, how he can provide these rescue animals that have endured so much trauma with much needed attention to earn back their trust, but also give back to the community? Happy Hooves was then created. Learning daily about the therapeutic benefits for so many. From memory care centers, autism, anxiety & depression, to those who just want to come to a place where they sense a belongingness. This organization allows for it all. Happy Hooves has expanded over the years & now have 4 mini horses, 2 mini donkeys, a mini mule, 2 mini cows, 2 alpacas, a sheep, and 6 full size horses. They have created what they call a “COMMUNITY FARM” where people in the community are welcome to volunteer & enjoy and embrace the remarkable spirits of these rescued animals. COMPASSION, EMPATHY, PATIENCE, RESPONSIBILITY, PURPOSE, HUMILITY, COURAGE, ACCOUNTABILITY, INTROSPECTION, BEING PRESENT, & finding and learning to be your AUTHENTIC SELF. A few other target groups that we have been working on logistics in order to safely provide services for, are the children in foster care, & creating a big brother, big sister type of program.
