Klub pozemního hokeje byl založen v roce 1946. Od té doby se píše jeho více než 70 letá historie. Ačkoliv datum oficiálního vzniku předchůdce dnešního oddílu pozemního hokeje HC 1946 Praga sahá do roku 1948, kdy pod tehdejším názvem vznikl Spartak AZKG, sahá vlastní historie Pragovky o 2 roky dále, do roku 1946. Tehdy totiž položili základy dnešní Pragovky spolužáci Jirásková gymnázia, při kterém vznikl oddíl SK Jiráskovo gymnázium. Oddíl byl již tehdy registrován u Československého svazu pozemního hokeje.
