Healthy Flavors is an "umbrella brand" for two farms, one in middle Tennessee and one in central Arkansas. Nadia and Dan Spatz are the proprietors, bringing 63 years of combined, food-focused experience. That ranges from managing global brands and world-wide supply chains to start-up farming experience; diverse agricultural production systems; developing minimalist processing and packaging operations; and planning and managing operations and logistics in the highly volatile world of fresh produce. The U.S. food system has evolved during the last century, almost unconsciously in terms of what objective we – as individuals and as a society – want to achieve. Food values today prize quantity over quality, push convenience over care, promote instant gratification over acquired taste and prioritize centralized, corporate players over local entities, with roots in our local communities. Unintended consequences abound, and range from a health crises to environmental impacts to workforce struggles and national security issues. For example, healthcare has grown from 5% of U.S. gross domestic product in the 1950s to 18% in 2023. It remains the fastest growing segment of our economy. We aim to play our small role in building societal health through farmer led, locally focused, community infused and sustainably based agricultural enterprise.
