Hellenic Mediation & Arbitration Center

The Hellenic Mediation and Arbitration Centre was initially set up in the frame of the Association of SA and LTD Companies. The Association of Sociétés Anonymes and Limited Liability Companies (the Association) is a non profit association established in 1922 with offices in Athens, Thessaloniki, Alexandroupoli and Heraclion and has offered continuous services to its members (about SAs and Ltd) since its inception. The Association at its Annual Meeting held on 30th March 2006, resolved to establish the Hellenic Mediation and Arbitration Centre with the objectives of: • bringing mediation into business practice and into the judicial system in Greece; • offering training and accreditation of mediators; • training professionals in other conflict management processes; • offering consultancy services in mediation to business, law firms and public sector organisations. The Centre, since its inception in 2006, has organised and participated in numerous events all over Greece for the promotion of mediation. The Centre actually started the debate over mediation in Greece and is currently promoting its application among the legal profession and the general public. The Centre has trained, with the assistance of foreign trainers and the partial financing of the Ministry of National Economy, more than 200 mediators so far. The Centre issues a monthly newsletter and published the first book on mediation in Greek. Moreover we are proud to stress that almost all trained mediators in Greece have been trained and accredited by the Centre in cooperation with the Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution (CEDR), the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CiArb) and the initial sponsoring of the Ministry of Development, Special Secretariat for Competition.
