Her Clique

Founded in 2019 by Izabela Depczyk as a platform for specially commissioned artworks by women, Her Clique is opening its flagship exhibition space in Lisbon, Portugal on February 15. To inaugurate the gallery, Her Clique will present MALCRIADAS, a group show featuring 21 contemporary, women-identifying artists whose practices embody the essence of the Portuguese word that loosely translates to “bad girls.” As we welcome viewers to our physical space in Lisbon, MALCRIADAS brings together some of the artists Her Clique has worked with over the years. United by their shared interest in breaking down patriarchal barriers, challenging social norms, and amplifying critical — often uncomfortable — questions of systemic injustices and toxic conventions, the fierce artists in the show represent the past, present, and future of bad girls in the art world. From the groundwork laid by pioneers including Marilyn Minter and Betty Tompkins to the fearless strides of emerging and mid-career figures like Nadine Faraj and Augustina Wang, MALCRIADAS offers an expansive view of works by trailblazing women artists.
