Her Handwork is a social enterprise based in Melbourne, Victoria. The highest growth rates occur in the poorest countries. Poverty is more than just the lack of finances to ensure a sustainable and dignified livelihood. Hunger, malnutrition, limited access to education and early childhood deaths manifests itself in poverty. As our population grows, so will the many children who will endure a life of high social risk. Ask the poor man what his greatest asset is and he would probably tell you it's his children. Unless the lives of the children change, the cycle of poverty will continue. Children and childhoods are at risk like never before. Poverty and injustice renders the poor and weak totally defenceless. They are susceptible to violence and exploitation. There are about 45 million people trapped in chains of slavery today. The statistics for poverty and modern day slavery seem very daunting. But behind the figures is a face, a name, a dream and a soul.
