Hewit
The Higher Education Wales Information Technology forum (HEWIT) is a grouping of Directors of Information Services and Heads of IT & Computing drawn from all higher education institutions in Wales. It meets four times a year once at the University of Wales Conference Centre in Gregynog, once at University of Wales, Aberystwyth and twice by Video-Conference. Its chair is elected from the members. HEWIT had its origins in the regular meetings of University of Wales Heads of Computer Units which were held in the 1980s, which reported via the University of Wales to the Registrar of the federal University. In 1993 the membership of the Committee was extended to include the Heads of Computer Unit of all Higher Education institutions in Wales. Following widespread convergence of Computer Centres and Libraries within Welsh Higher Education it is now attended by the person responsible for Information Technology within each member organisation. In the membership was extended to include IT staff from the central University of Wales and the Welsh Funding Council.
