High Corn Mill

Set along the picturesque Leeds-Liverpool canal in the heart of Skipton, the mill is a fascinating historical building that now serves as a thoroughly modern retail and office complex. Fully renovated, the mill provides fabulous premises for a number of independently owned shops and businesses – all just a stone's throw from Skipton High Street which was recently voted 'Street of The Year'. While geared up for the 21st century, High Corn Mill also retains strong links with its medieval past: the waterwheel has been restored and the installation of a brand new water turbine generator saw High Corn Mill shortlisted for a Yorkshire Post Environment Award in May 2011. Owner and 'Green Entrepreneur' Andrew Mear invested in a specially commissioned 600kg water turbine that generates part of Skipton’s electricity supply via the national grid. The 15kw Crossflow turbine powers up to 20 local houses and forms the centrepiece of the mill’s ‘Historical Innovation Zone’ tourism attraction which draws visitors from Yorkshire and further afield.
