Benjamin David Hjelm is one of the East Coast's most visionary painters and rapidly advancing artists. Before Benjamin was an award-winning artist, he cut his teeth doing commissioned work as a young man, selling his first pieces directly to private buyers as a high school student. Benjamin honed his craft studying under renowned artists Jerry LoFaro, Jim Burke, and Jonathan Simon, eventually earning a BFA in Illustration from the New Hampshire Institute of Art. His work has been published and distributed internationally and can be found in galleries, magazines, luxury hotels, on the cover of jazz albums, and - perhaps most fittingly - on the walls of speakeasies. For more than a decade, Benjamin has been creating, sharing, and selling powerful works of art. His paintings speak to a broad audience narrating themes of Confrontation, Identity, Human Condition, Passage of Time and Nostalgia. It is as if BDH is a time traveler leaving breadcrumbs from his cosmic wayfaring behind for us to discover. His massive portraits are you and me. Look closely.
