Hort Culture

Hort | Culture is a non-profit job training program and social enterprise. As an official partner of Covenant House California, a 501(c)(3) youth shelter, we’ve worked hand in hand to provide paid internships to young people staying in Covenant House shelters since the summer of 2020. Our interns operate a social enterprise plant shop. The shop sells houseplants, plant-related merchandise, and 3D-printed pottery. We aim to support Bay Area youth in transition with finding and keeping good jobs. Our workforce development curriculum is designed to provide holistic job training that equips unhoused youth with practical skills and fosters emotional well-being and community engagement. Our work exposes interns to entrepreneurial concepts, business principles, innovative technology, and software such as Canva, Excel, Slack, and the Square POS system. Additionally, we offer creative and therapeutic outlets that contribute to mental health improvement, making Hort | Culture more than just a job training program—it's a nurturing community where young people can grow, heal, and thrive.
