Augmenting human intelligence with artificial intelligence. The Holzinger Group HCI-KDD promotes an integrated synergistic approach of two areas towards understanding intelligence: Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) & Knowledge Discovery/Data Mining (KDD). The goal is to augement human intelligence with artificial intelligence and to support human learning with machine learning. The Holzinger group has pioneered in interactive machine learning (iML) with the human-in-the-loop. Due to raising legal and privacy issues in the European Union (EU General Data Protection Regulation, GDPR) such glass box approaches will become important in the future. It will become compulsory to be able to make decisions transparent, understandable and re-traceable - and to explain why a machine decision has been made, paving the way to explainable-ai.
