Hundreds And Thousands

All women with vulnerabilities are supported in their physical, mental and emotional health and well-being during their pregnancy and for the vital first two years of their child’s life. This service includes antenatal care, developmental screening, healthcare for children to optimise learning and to ensure pre-school readiness. All ‘at-risk’/higher needs areas would have a Hundreds & Thousands Centre, co-locating with like-services, including childbirth education, breast feeding support, counselling, parenting classes, drug and alcohol services, childcare, parenting support services. Existing health and welfare support systems have limitations for women with vulnerabilities. They are reliant on women accessing existing health structures, such as General Practitioners and Child Health Nurses that are often task focussed, inflexible and time poor. Unfortunately, these services are not well set up to support women with higher needs, who may find it difficult to engage with services and that have multiple competing demands on their time. By offering a tailored approach individualised to each woman that meets her specific needs and can move with her, Hundreds & Thousands plans to help women engage meaningfully with healthcare and improve health and well-being outcomes for them and their children.
