Established in 2002 by Douglas Culbert, Huron Geomatics is now leading the charge in high accuracy information and dynamic imagery for mapping, design/engineering, and inspection projects! The vehicle mounted system can map/scan data at normal traffic speeds for roadway surface condition assessments, roadside feature inventories, and geographically correct 3-dimensional measurements. The system includes a high-resolution LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) scanner oriented to cover the road surface and adjacent buildings up to 100 meters / 300 feet away. A high resolution digital camera captures 180 degrees forward facing images at fixed distance intervals (with 2 passes providing 360 degree imagery) All sensor inputs are recorded and time stamped to a common internal clock. The data is post-processed and geo-referenced with the LIDAR to provide a 3D image representation which can then be exported to industry standard formats. The point cloud and image data can be integrated with standard applications (Autodesk/AutoCAD, ESRI/ArcGIS) to provide a foundation for extracting features, measuring, designing, and analyzing!
