The Hyderabad Tiger Conservation Society (HyTiCoS) is a voluntary organization dedicated to the conservation of tigers and their habitats in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, India. Established in 2001, HyTiCoS focuses on scientific environmental assessments, advocating for objective policy changes, and collaborating with diverse groups to protect tigers. Their mission emphasizes fair policy implementation that benefits tribal communities and promotes a collaborative approach to wildlife conservation. HyTiCoS also prioritizes capacity building and morale-boosting programs for frontline forest staff, recognizing them as the true custodians of the forest. Over the years, HyTiCoS has achieved significant milestones, including- Adoption of Kawal Wildlife Sanctuary: In 2001, HyTiCoS adopted Kawal as a pilot project, leading to its declaration as a tiger reserve in 2012- Community Engagement: Initiatives like the "Kids of Tigers Programme" in 2002, which reached 55 schools in Hyderabad, and the adoption of Gundala village in 2018, comprising seven hamlets- Research and Monitoring: Conducting prey assessments, tiger monitoring, and occupancy surveys in various tiger reserves, including Nagarjunasagar Srisailam and Amrabad- Agroforestry Projects: Launching agroforestry projects to recover lost tiger habitats and improve community livelihoods. HyTiCoS's dedication to tiger conservation and community welfare has been recognized through various awards and media coverage, highlighting their impactful work in wildlife protection and habitat restoration.
