Sexual issues being taboo, many persons suffering from sexual problems used to approach any and every health care practitioner from jholachhap village 'doctors' to qualified post graduate medicine practitioners. There were many issues where traditional beliefs and teachings of health care practices used to be diametrically opposite to those propagated by modern science and medicine. Even at online platforms queries asked on simple facts like masturbation etc used to garner polar replies from these practitioners leaving the viewer more confused and tense. To correct this obfuscation and to make this clear, at the beginning of 2016, a group of highly trained Sexual Medicine practitioners from all over India decided to take action on the clear need and willingness to lay the foundation of a new professional society for sexual medicine practitioners of modern medicine. As a result, they formed a WhatsApp group and worked on setting up the new International society for Sexual Medicine practitioners which was established in August 2017. They formed a society and registered it under Society under Societies Registration Act, 1860. The agenda was to provide modern scientific thought and practices in practice of sexual medicine.
