El Instituto de Ciencias Biomédicas (ICBM) de la Facultad de Medicina fue creado el 1° de Septiembre de 1997, bajo el decanato del Dr. Eduardo Rosselot Jaramillo. Reemplazó la estructura de los Departamentos Básicos y Pre-Clínicos de Facultad, por la de un Instituto de Facultad destinado a cumplir de manera multidisciplinar y temática las funciones académicas de investigación, docencia de pregrado y postgrado y vinculación con el medio y la comunidad en el área de las ciencias biomédicas.
