The ICCS was set up on the 5th of October 2009 when 36 Members got together and declared their oaths as founder Members of the Institute. At the Founder Members' Meeting the office bearers were appointed and thereafter the Board of Management has had regular monthly meetings of the Board. Offices have been located at a central location on the Galle Road in Colombo 3, where the Secretariat has been established. There are two members in the staff, one Chief Operating Officer and the other is the Administrative Secretary. To date 260 students have been enrolled and some of them such as Attorneys at Law, Accountants etc, have been granted exemptions from certain parts of the professional examinations enabling them to complete the ICCS examination requirements when they satisfy the Examiners on the balance subjects. A scheme for the award of prizes has been set up. The donor funds have been received and the scheme is being implemented. The Institute has conducted half yearly examinations and so far 46 students have completed. Application was made to the Tertiary & Vocational Education Commission Sri Lanka (TVEC) and a certificate of the TVEC has been secured to conduct classes, examinations and issue certificates. The Institute has published Newsletters to keep the membership, employers and general public aware of the activities of the professional body. As a regular exercise, periodical public seminars, engaging business leaders have been arranged and successfully completed. ICCS has joined the Chartered Secretaries International Association (CSIA), the only international body of Corporate Secretaries in the world. The Institute continues to maintain contact with the ICSA (UK) and co-operate locally with akin bodies such as ICASL, CIMA (UK), ACCA, CIMA (SL) and CMA. Our Members are eligible to be registered as Company Secretaries by the Registrar of Companies, under the provisions of the Companies Act No. 7 of 2007.
