Where you start when you want to start something. IdeakickSF is a community where people can come to events to kick around ideas they have.There are already several organizations in the area where companies can gain exposure (SF NewTech, SF Beta, SVASE, SV New Tech, Web 2.0 Conference, et al) by demoing their products and services, so we probably don’t need another. What I’m more interested in (and I hope others will be as well) is how people first come up with an idea, and take that idea at its most embryonic stage and turn it into a company, an organization or a product. The origin of Google is a good example: Larry Page and Sergey Brin, both Stanford Grad students, met during a student tour up to San Francisco and started arguing the merits of various technology ideas they had. Low and behold, a friendship formed and they eventually went on to create a company that has changed the world. The thing that interests me is that initial meeting and subsequent arguments over ideas, and how they transformed those ideas into the beginnings of a product and then a company. The event most people know about in the idea space is StartupWeekend, which I’ve attended. It’s a great event too, but it’s a substantial time commitment to go all weekend, and it only happens a couple times per year. I think there is a need for a more frequent get-together with less of a commitment where people can come casually trade thoughts over a few beers, and listen to a few people present their ideas. With that background in mind, please join us for IdeakickSF.
