Ilam School

Ilam School is a decile 6, co-educational state school with a roll of around 500 children. Founded in 1950, the school caters for children from New Entrants to Year 6. The school is set in attractive, spacious grounds. It is a friendly and positive school where children are considerate and supportive of each other. A unique feature of Ilam is our culturally diverse community. Children from 70 different cultural and national backgrounds attend Ilam, providing a rich and varied environment. Ilam provides high-quality education for children by teachers who are committed to their profession. The staff take part in regular, in-depth professional development. They are skilled in and value the importance of meeting the individual needs of children across the school. We strive to provide an engaging learning environment where learners will become highly literate and numerate as well as being curious, creative problem-solvers, good communicators who are skilled at working with others and have strong cultural competencies. We want our children to thrive as they head into their futures, as well-rounded individuals with a richness of experience who have a strong moral ethic to do the right thing. Ilam has a close relationship with our neighbour, the University of Canterbury. Staff and students from both organisations provide contributions that build upon existing programmes.
