Imagine Her Ih
We are building rural entrepreneurial infrastructure that unlocks economic mobility for young women and youth, transforming communities from the ground up. Why We Do It Uganda is ranked 3rd in the world for the country with the highest economic dependency rate (99.5%). This is attributed to multiple barriers including the extremely high youth unemployment - 83% for people aged 15-24 years old. Despite the numerous efforts to reduce this trend, economic dependency among women and girls remains high as a result of limited access to resources such as capital, land, and the skills needed to get employment. As a result, women and girls are unable to access economic opportunities, quality education, and health care services. The continuing trend of economic dependency pushes women and girls to adopt other means of survival, such as working odd jobs, early marriages, and sticking to abusive relationships. Ultimately, women and girls are susceptible to gender-based violence and gender inequality, maternal and infant mortality if the problem is not tackled. Why it matters Rural young women and youth possess immense potential. By building economic independence, we can amplify their power and leadership across communities. Over 75% of Uganda’s population lives in rural areas, yet essential entrepreneurship infrastructure, incubators, accelerators, and investment networks are largely urban-centered. This geographic divide leaves rural communities, especially 3 million young women and youth not in education, employment, or training (NEET), without access to the ecosystems, capital, and skills needed to unlock their entrepreneurial potential.
