Impumelelo Development Projects

Impumelelo Development Project (IDP) is a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) servicing predominantly rural communities in the Eastern Cape. IDP has its head office in Matatiele and originally started in 2003 by a group of women who sought to converge into a socio-economic development initiative establishment that will empower beneficiaries through self-sustainable initiatives. At the beginning, the organisation mainly focused on making and promoting local craft making, traditional garments, sewing skills development and conservation of local indigenous art, knowledge and heritage. Organisation and Management IDP is registered with the Department of Social Development. The oversight is exercised by the Management Committee and applies the good governance principles. Day to day activities is looked after by the full time staff members with the Centre Manager as the person responsible for overall administration and coordination of programmes. IDP has other key critical stakeholders looking after the interests of the portfolios they represent. The stakeholders draw from sectors including; education, SETA accredited quality assurance providers, and business community. We seek to empower people by bringing together individual talents and skills for mutual benefit through a business community of diverse background wherein the aspirations of the future are complimented and challenges tackled by applying interventions, learning and adopting latest value ridden, effective and efficient, technical and technological factors while returning the essence defining our humanity.
