Inhabit Place

With cities expected to become home to two thirds of the world’s population by 2050, it is critical that we understand how to design them for a sustainable, safe and prosperous future. Inhabit Place empowers decision makers and communities to do just that. Inhabit Place is a data and analytical tool that records and interprets human behavior in public spaces to better understand how we use the built environment, and how the built environment impacts us. It enables smooth and standardised data collection that generates easy to read reports for wide dissemination and transparent accounting. Inhabit Place is built on the Public Space Public Life methodology championed by Jan Gehl, and allows the systemic, cost-effective and reliable collection and analysis of data through an easy use application of place auditing. The Inhabit Place app is a straightforward, intuitive platform that makes recording and understanding data easy and quantifies social elements of how our cities function, creating benchmark studies that can become the foundation of appreciating the way our public spaces operate. We building capacity in local communities to collect this data. Inhabit Place is for governments working with public funds, developers committed to design excellence and organisations looking to create the best outcomes for and with the communities they serve.
