Inovai Lab

InovAI Lab is a center of excellence in artificial intelligence (AI) research and innovation, based at the Digital Metropolis Institute (IMD) and coordinated by Prof. Marcelo A. C. Fernandes. It is affiliated with the Graduate Program in Bioinformatics (PPgBioInfo) and the Graduate Program in Electrical and Computer Engineering (PPgEEC) at UFRN. With a highly qualified team, the laboratory is constantly working to develop practical and impactful solutions in diverse fields such as bioinformatics, healthcare, tactile interfaces, specialized hardware, and much more. In addition, InovAI Lab maintains prominent international partnerships with institutions such as King’s College London, University of Mons, Coventry University, University of Porto, University of Granada, Harvard University, and University of Seville. It also participates in INCTs (National Institutes of Science and Technology), including High-Energy Physics CERN-Brazil, Intelligent Communication Networks and Internet of Things (ICoNIoT), and Childhood Cancer Biology and Pediatric Oncology (BioOncoPed). InovAI Lab is recognized for leading innovative and high-impact research groups across various areas. Among these are the Research Group on AI-driven Genomics (AiGenomics), focused on the application of artificial intelligence in genomics; the Research Group on Preterm Health Prediction (AiPreterm), which stands out in preterm health forecasting; and the Research Group on Embedded Systems and Reconfigurable Computing (RESRC), specializing in embedded systems and reconfigurable computing. These strategic partnerships strengthen InovAI Lab’s position as a leader in AI research and contribute to scientific and technological advancement on both national and international scales.
