Instituto Dom Phillips

We were born from a violence that was not the first and will not be the last. Honoring Dom's legacy means acknowledging the pain and moving beyond it, understanding that his relationship with the Amazon Rainforest was not limited to his murder. Instead, he immersed himself in the exuberance of the forest and listened to its people in order to show the world the full human, environmental, and cultural diversity of the region. As an Institute, we are rooted in the same purpose: to amplify the voices of the Amazon and the knowledge of its people and caretakers, driving educational movements for the preservation of life. We have chosen education as a tool to promote a decolonized knowledge about and for the Amazon. We want to develop educational projects that start from the territory and go back to the territory and also to the world, promoting spaces for collective construction and network articulation of the diverse knowledge and caretakers of the forest. We are professionals and friends of Dom and Alessandra Sampaio, his wife, and we work, primarily, to listen. Today, our growth and development of projects is tied to a partner network of connection and donation. Join this movement!
