Interplay Architects

Interplay, founded in 2023 by Alicja Kubicka and Borja Martínez, is an international architectural studio that creates timeless architecture by merging the local context with a universally resonant vision of designed spaces. In our projects, we strive to explore new applications for local building materials through creative use that remains in harmony with the culture of the place. This ability to connect cultures is reflected in our skill in adapting designs to specific contexts, creating spaces that are both functional and deeply rooted in local traditions. We always start with a thorough analysis of our clients’ needs. Our aim is to create harmony between function and emotion, ensuring that the spaces we design offer an experience of exploration, discovery, and balance. We build lasting connections with people and the environment. Our team brings extensive experience gained in renowned studios such as Kengo Kuma & Associates, Archi5, Wilmotte & Associés or DREAM, enabling us to integrate global trends into local projects. This is particularly evident in our design for the Polish Pavilion at Expo 2025 in Osaka, which uses wood as the main construction material, incorporating local techniques for its processing and assembly."We believe that quality architecture is the result of understanding the complex interplay between various components and systems."
