Island Thatch Inc. was launched in 2007 with one main focus, to promote environmental awareness by offering natural and sustainable products that provide insight and inspiration to consumers who are ready to make small changes that add up. ABOUT BAMBOO As remarkable renewable resource and the fastest growing plant on earth, bamboo grows faster than the fastest growing tree. Some species grow up to 1 meter per day, and can be selectively harvested annually with no need for replanting. Bamboo plays an important role in the reduction of timber consumption, environmental and forest protection, poverty alleviation and sustainable development of rural economies. ABOUT PALM THATCH Palm fronds are considered "green" because of the way they're collected. At Island Thatch we use only quality palms that are cut and the rest of the plant is left intact to provide wildlife habitat and continue growing for future use. Social benefits are also reaped as more money goes to the people who harvest the palm leaves and to the small villages that weave the final product. Eco-palm producers operating in Mexico follow guidelines similar to those for certified chocolate and coffee.
