As a kid, I remember going as a family to our favorite mexican restaurant (I can still smell the fresh tortillas). My dad was a dentist. And one of his biggest challenges was finding good staff for his office. Our waitress we had on this occasion was AMAZING! She was so great, my dad ended up offering her a job on the spot. What would that be like if job offers start coming to you, instead of the other way around? In my own career in IT, I've found short cuts and hacks to advance ones career. ITCareerHacking.com is to help IT pros hack their careers and get jobs coming to them. According to Forbes only 20% of jobs are publicly advertised. And only 20% of those get interviews. Most career coaching services help with resumes and interviewing. Which is a cultural necessity for job seeking. But is also focusing on the least effective way of getting a job. What I teach is how to hack the job hunt, so that ideally your opportunity doesn't depend on the resume. That becomes a technicality. It's about tapping into the 80% of jobs that don't have a 'front door'. The secret sauce of hacking is social capital and ones network. Who's getting the other 80% of jobs? People they know. But knowing a lot of people isn't enough. We all know someone we wouldn't hire. People need to see us as trustworthy & likable, but also competent and confident. Then when opportunities arise, they are more likely to think of you. The secret ingredients of hacking are mostly social hacks to build a network of referrals.
