株 岩田宝来屋 Iwata Houraiya
In Kyoto, a city that has been symbolic of Japanese culture for a millennium, Iwata Houraiya has been producing and restoring Buddhist altars, altar accessories, and statues, and the designing of the interior spaces of temples with a team of craftsmen whose skills have been handed down a lineage starting from the Heian period. At Iwata Houraiya, we aspire to pass on the wonderful thousand-year-old high-high quality craft and techniques of ancient Japan to future generations. We bring together artisans specializing in traditional crafts: utilizing woodworking, wood carving, lacquering, gilding, waxing, coloring, maki-e end decorative metal work techniques, and handcrafting our products with careful attention to detail. Our work is not mass produced but is instead designed to be long-lasting heirlooms, with the intention for it to be repeatedly repaired and restored in the future. Iwata Houraiya is committed to making products that are environmentally sustainable and are of high quality, so that they can be loved for generations to come.
