Jamii Telecommunications Limited, also known as JTL, is a privately owned Kenyan mobile operator. JTL provides broadband services to businesses, both local and international corporates and SME’S, Government institutions, as well as residential customers under its ‘FAIBA’ brand name. JTL has built an expansive Fiber Optic network with presence in all major towns in Kenya. Through its Faiba Konnect product, it offers Point-to-Point services between 2 or more routers directly communicating with each other without a host in between. The Home Internet service and Business internet is offered using the GPON technology which enabled customers to have fast and reliable internet speeds. In 2017, JTL was the first company to be awarded a license by the Communication Authority of Kenya to operate a pure 4G LTE mobile network using the 700MHZ frequency/spectrum in Kenya. Due to its high propagation characteristics, the 700MHz offers a good solution to connect the hard to reach and unserved population in Kenya Faiba Mobile prides itself in having the most competitive mobile data packages in Kenya with no charge for calls within its network subject to a valid data bundle. JTL is famous for its excellent marketing campaigns under the famous animated cartoon series ‘Mbugua’, which has demystified and simplified technological jargons. JTL is a shareholder in The East African Marine System (TEAMS) fiber optic submarine telecommunications cable system connecting Kenya to the rest of the world through Fujairah in the UAE. As a locally owned company, JTL believes in investing in homegrown solutions to address the macro-economic challenges in Kenya. To this end, JTL has invested heavily in jobs for the youth and supporting local athletes through various initiatives.
