Put simply, the Course is a nine-week introduction to some of the most thought-provoking achievements in the Western world, from the Classical Past to Today. Conducted through on-site visits and a series of lectures by a team of world-class experts chosen for their charisma and ability to communicate, the Course includes not only Art - painting, sculpture and architecture, but also music, world cinema, some global issues, literature, history. It is an exciting and enriching experience for everyone. We have been running since 1965 and since then over 'Gap Year' students have passed through our 'doors' and have gone on to leave universities right across the world and have entered professional life in the arts, law, banking, media, as academics, journalists and many other lines of business. Up until now, these like-minded individuals have operated an 'invisible' network of co-operation, collaboration and occasionally recommendation, linked by this amazing shared experience that is, it's important to stress, not 'merely' focused on art and the history of art. By joining up on this site we hope to be able to stay in touch with one another, to promote the ideals of what we still pass on and to spread the word of this incredible experience to those who we feel will benefit from the John Hall experience.
