John Manning is a freelance outdoor journalist with more than 20 years experience in feature writing, editing & sub-editing. He has worked for daily and weekly papers in Yorkshire and for 13 years was deputy editor of TGO (The Great Outdoors) Magazine, based in Glasgow. Today he specialises in reviewing outdoor equipment for several outdoor consumer titles including TGO and BBC Countryfile Magazine. He also contributes outdoor features to some of the country's best-selling outdoor titles and acts as co-ordinator of the annual South Pennines Walk & Ride Festival, on behalf of Pennine Prospects.
