Small self-administered pension schemes (SSAS) are private pension schemes that operate as private, self-administered trusts. They are designed to provide pensions and other benefits for the owners/directors of small to medium-sized companies. Such schemes can be independ­ent of the company's employee scheme, and can continue in existence even if the underlying employer ceases to exist.
