Junior Forest Rangers
The Junior Forest Rangers is a summer program that focuses on exposing students to career opportunities in forestry, wildfire, ecology, conservation, and environmental stewardship. The JFR program hires up to 18 post-secondary students/graduates nationwide to fill our Crew Leader and Sub Leader positions, and up to 72 high school students from across Alberta. We assemble 9 crews across the province, where each crew consists of a leader, sub leader, and 8 crew members. Each crew lives on a wildfire base, where they complete different work projects over a 7-week time period. Some of these projects include trail building, ATV certification, Indigenous culture camp, wilderness first aid, stream assessments, experience with being on a wildfire, and so much more!
