Just Beginnings Collaborative

Just Beginnings Collaborative (JBC) is a national survivor-centered intermediary working to end child sexual abuse and transform how communities respond to harm. We believe what is not transformed gets transferred — and that includes the trauma and violence carried across generations. Founded in 2015, JBC bridges bold grassroots ideas and vital funding to build the conditions where true safety can take hold. We resource and connect the community leaders who are creating care-centered, non-punitive approaches to healing, accountability, and prevention. Through our three-part framework — Source, Strategy, and Story — we: Source: Mobilize and redistribute resources to fund community-led safety strategies while cultivating funders ready to move beyond punitive models. Strategy: Invest in grassroots organizers and survivor-leaders developing transformative, community-based approaches to accountability and healing. Story: Shift narratives about safety and harm through storytelling, advocacy, and thought leadership that center survivor wisdom and collective care. Our network of grantee partners anchors JBC’s vision in practice. Together, we are building a new safety ecosystem — one where survivors are believed and supported, those who have caused harm are guided toward transformation, and communities have the tools to prevent harm before it happens. Leadership Nicole Pittman, Executive Director, is a survivor and national leader whose landmark Human Rights Watch report, Raised on the Registry, exposed the harms of placing children on sex-offender registries and helped catalyze reforms nationwide. Nicole’s work advances a vision of prevention that includes — not excludes — those who have caused harm, centering collective care, nonviolence, and transformation. Our belief is simple yet radical: Safety is built by us. Not through control or punishment, but through care, trust, and shared responsibility.
