Justice Defenders

Justice Defenders is a nonprofit training incarcerated people and prison staff as paralegals and lawyers to serve those denied justice. Since 2018, we’ve served people in prison without access to justice with free legal advice. Our work has secured the release of 69,00 people and reunited them with their families and communities. More than 5 billion people have unmet justice needs globally, that's two in three of us. Without access to justice, people are detained unlawfully, denied fair hearings, and left without protection under the law. The good news: closing the global justice gap is possible. We do this in three ways: Education We train paralegals and deliver law degrees with the University of London, strengthening legal understanding in prison communities. Practice We provide legal advice, prepare cases, and pursue litigation to make fair hearings possible. Convening We bring together people in prison, prison staff, legal professionals and donors to reimagine justice from the inside out. Join us and become a Justice Defender!
