The word “Kakou” is Hawaiian for their value of inclusiveness. It means “all of us” and “we are in this together.” Together we are stronger. We are better. Kakou is a social enterprise and in November 2019, we became the first UK engineering company to certify as a B Corporation. We continuously make improvements to our day-to-day activities to lessen the impact we have on the planet and our local environment. Engineering is not traditionally known as an eco-friendly industry, however with advances in technologies, new legislation and a change in attitude, the industry is actively progressing in its “green” endeavours. We are always researching and striving to make products that are more eco-friendly and sustainable by way of using new or different technologies, materials and processes. We are also here to serve our community. Through our social enterprise Kakou CIC, we provide cross-curricular activities combining our love of science and engineering with the creative arts. Our community-focused Social Fuse programme develops skills, and educates people about the contribution of the creative sciences to their everyday lives. We work with partners to deliver engaging arts, heritage and wellbeing activities and experiences.
