Kalakunj Foundation

Kalakunj Foundation is a grassroots non-profit organization founded in 2007 and based in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, working to empower marginalized communities through a holistic and participatory approach to sustainable development. With a focus on education, healthcare, livelihood generation, gender equality, environmental protection, and child rights, the Foundation has been a catalyst for inclusive growth across rural, tribal, and urban-poor populations for over 17 years. Legally registered under the Indian Trust Act and compliant with 12A & 80G of the Income Tax Act, Kalakunj Foundation has established itself as a credible, community-rooted organization with measurable grassroots impact. Guided by the belief that real transformation begins when people lead their own development, the Foundation places community ownership, capacity building, and sustainability at the heart of every intervention. Kalakunj’s diverse portfolio of programs includes Community Education Centers (CECs) for out-of-school children, health and nutrition camps, Swarnaprashan drives to strengthen child immunity, and ‘Nirmaya’ menstrual hygiene campaigns for adolescent girls and women. The Foundation’s livelihood initiatives train youth and women in tailoring, mushroom farming, solar repair, and digital entrepreneurship—helping many start microenterprises or gain formal employment. In parallel, Self-Help Groups (SHGs) are nurtured to promote women’s leadership, savings, and financial independence. Its environmental vertical leads impactful initiatives like ‘Anvi Tree Plantation’ and ‘Plastic Mukt Abhiyan’, promoting ecological awareness and community action. Through its child protection programs, Kalakunj sensitizes students on personal safety and rights, fostering a safer environment for young learners. To date, the Foundation has directly impacted over individuals, supported 5 active education centers, conducted 25+ health camps, and trained 500+ women in livelihood activities.
